Discipline is not a character trait you either have or lack. It is a set of environmental and structural conditions that make the desired behaviour the path of least resistance.

This distinction matters enormously, because if discipline is a trait, then failing means you are deficient. If discipline is a system, then failing means your system needs redesigning. One of these framings produces shame and quitting. The other produces iteration.
